Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)

Greater Dandenong City Council (Council) is committed to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment enabling all work activities to be carried out safely and free from workplace injuries and illnesses. Council recognises that OHS is an integral part of our business and will take all reasonably practicable measures to eliminate or minimise risks to the health and safety of our employees, labour hire, contractors, visitors and anyone who may be affected by our operations.

To do so, we focus on four key areas:

  1. Leadership - provide direction and support in the pursuit of improved workplace health and safety and environment standards.
  2. Active OHS Behaviour - actively consult with employees and other relevant parties on OHS matters.
  3. Systematic approach - identify workplace safety hazards, assess and control risks, and seek continuous improvement by evidence, learned experiences, subject matter experts and review of safety measures.
  4. Workplaces and equipment - address physical and psychosocial characteristics of work, together with the needs and capabilities of the people involved.

Safety is both a shared and individual responsibility that relies on the commitment and cooperation of all leaders and employees.
