Appropriate Workplace Behaviour Contact Representatives (AWB Contact Representatives) have an important role to play in supporting a respectful and safe workplace that is free from inappropriate workplace behaviours.

Who are the current AWB Contact Representatives?

AWB Contact Representatives come from across Council and are trained to provide information about possible inappropriate workplace behaviours. You can choose to speak with any AWB Contact Representative - you don't have to speak with a representative within your local business unit or area.

Why are they important?

They are important because they-

  • provide a service to all staff
  • contribute to a safe, healthy and harmonious workplace
  • can provide confidential and impartial information in a supportive way

What is their role?

AWB Contact Representatives have very specific roles as set out below:

They will -  

  • Listen and provide appropriate support to you if you think you might have experienced inappropriate behaviour at work
  • Listen and provide appropriate support if an allegation of inappropriate workplace behaviour has been made against you
  • Listen and provide appropriate support if you feel you may have been victimised at work
  • Provide information about the Appropriate Workplace Behaviours or Behavioural Concerns Resolution policies
  • Provide information about referring a matter to an external agency or other Council staff or managers
  • Help you to clarify issues
  • Support you to make an informed choice about dealing with your concerns

What they cannot do

They can't :

  • give you advice, they can only give you information or support; or
  • support you if they are already supporting someone else involved in the same matter. Where this occurs, they are required to refer you to a different AWB Contact Representative. 

Can I choose which Contact Representative I speak with?

Yes. You are free to speak with any AWB Contact Representative from the list below.  You don't have to speak only to a representative from within your business unit.

If your chosen representative has already spoken to someone about the same matter, they are obliged to refer you to a different AWB Contact Representative.

What skills do they have?

Every AWB Contact Representative will attend relevant training to ensure hey are aware of:

  • relevant human rights and anti-discrimination legislation and Council's relevant policies
  • Council's requirements of Workplace Behaviour Contact Representatives 
  • relevant interviewing techniques appropriate for dealing with allegations of sexual harassment, discrimination and/or inappropriate workplace behaviour
