Appropriate Workplace Behaviours

Dandenong Civic Centre

Everyone has the right to a workplace free from:

  • unlawful discrimination
  • sexual harassment
  • bullying
  • work related violence
  • victimisation
  • negative behaviour about their sexual orientation and/or gender identity
  • breaches of human rights
  • racial or religious vilification
  • other behaviour that is likely to have a negative effect on someone's wellbeing, health and safety

Council's Appropriate Workplace Behaviours Policy; Workplace Behavioural Concerns Resolution Policy and Procedures; as well as the Prevention of Bullying and Violence Guidelines (all below) set out the rights, responsibilities and resolution strategies related to workplace behavioural concerns. The Staff Code of Conduct and Council's REACH principles also set down expectations around workplace behaviour.

Concerns?

If you are concerned about behaviour you are experiencing in the workplace, please read the documents referenced on this page. As soon as possible, raise your concerns with your supervisor, a member of the Organisational Development team or one of Council's designated Appropriate Workplace Behaviour Contact Representatives.  If you feel it would be of benefit, you could also make a confidential appointment with a qualified counsellor through Council's Employee Assistance Program at no cost to you.

It is recommended that you keep a written record/diary that includes the date and time, location, names of any witnesses, what happened and any action you (or others) took. Also record the name/s of anyone that you told about what happened and when.

Should the matter progress to a formal workplace investigation, this will be conducted in accordance with the Workplace Investigations Procedure (below).
