Greater Dandenong - an organisation of exceptional character
REACH defines who we are and how we interact with others. It is an extension of our corporate values and provides details about how each of us should aim to operate in the workplace regardless of the role we hold.
When you read the words and the simple behaviour statements included in REACH you will find there is nothing new in the words or what they represent.
It’s how the vast majority of staff already go about their daily work.
The REACH characters are something we should all aspire to everyday because doing so will collectively create a culture based on respect, integrity and accountability.
Respectful
We act with integrity at all times and in all matters.
We take time to listen to and seek to understand the other point of view.
We strive to understand and respect the diversity of our community and our workplace.
We understand our role in the community and respect the responsibility that comes with it.
Engaged
We work together with our community and each other, to achieve the best outcome.
We have the confidence to challenge the status quo, to reach for better outcomes.
We are action-oriented in identifying and responding to new challenges.
Accountable
We are proud of our city, our community and our achievements.
We spend our time and effort on solutions rather than looking for someone to blame.
We take responsibility for our actions.
Creative
We constantly ask: What’s the future and what’s possible?
We have the courage to try new ideas.
We strive for excellence in everything we do.
Honest
We tell the truth, even when we know people may not want to hear it.
We form our opinions and give advice from sound, evidence based research.
We act with humility and apply the highest standards of ethical behaviour to everything we do.
How you can use REACH
REACH is both a framework and a guide and will mean different things to different teams. Think about interactions within your team.
- Where do we currently perform well?
 - What are our team’s strengths
 - Where could we improve as a team?
 - On reflection, are there times when you or the team could have responded or acted more positively?

REACH defines what we strive for collectively. How we want to be treated as individuals and what customers expect from us. In short it demonstrates to others how we go about providing services.
REACH should be incorporated into:
- Performance Development Planning (PDP) discussions
 - meetings
 - service standards
 - recruitment processes
 - day to day interactions with each other and our community.

What’s important is that you are part of the conversation about what we are doing well and where improvements can be made to the benefit of all. It’s only through these conversations that positive actions can be put in place.
