Navigation

These sites have been designed to offer several different ways to navigate to the information you are looking for.

The search bar

The search bar works by typing in key words which describe what you are looking for into the search bar - just like google. You can access the search bar from the header bar at the top of the website when you are on any page.

Hamburger menu

The hamburger menu icon opens a traditional menu for each website where you will find the sections of the website and their sub sections.

You can access the icon from the header bar at the top right of the website when you are on any page

‘I want to’ icons

Remember the long line of purple icons at the top of Webstar? This is the new and improved version. The ‘I want to’ icons are a list of our corporate applications. You’ll also find the Org chart here.

The ‘I want to’ icons also follow you around the website. You can access these from the header bar at the top right of the website when you are on any page.

Featured pages

These are the six tiles to the right of the news section on The Source home page. You can use them to access the main sections of website.

Side menus

We have included traditional side menus on every internal page on every site to help you find your away around. These menus are on the left hand side of almost every page in every website.

My links

The My links feature works like a bookmark bar in your browser, with the extra bonus that those links are available to you when you are on The Source on any device you use.

To add a link, all you need is the URL of the link you want to create e.g. https://www.facebook.com/greaterdandenong, click on the ‘My links’ bar, click on the plus sign and then add the URL into the next available box and save.

Notifications

Just a little bit borrowed from social media, the notifications function largely replaces daily news. We found the content in most daily news articles were just service related messages for staff and not really articles. While this information is important, it is usually short so we created the notification to display this information.

There are 5 categories of notifications –

  • HR – Organisation Development information
  • BM – Building Maintenance information
  • IT – Information Technology service information
  • H&S – Health and Safety alerts
  • All types - Other

Notifications show up in 3 places on The Source:

  • as a red banner under The Source banner
  • as a number on your avatar picture - top right of the header bar
  • in the notification panel on the home page – bottom left, next to the Social feeds

The banners and number next to your picture will go away once you click the X (close) on the far right of the banner. But don’t worry if you missed part of the message as the notification still exists in the Notification panel further down the home page. Please note, these messages often have links in them for more information. These will take you to other longer form content.

The Source News

Much like the external sites, we have included a news section on The Source. This section features articles on the home page of The Source, but also provides access to featured, unfeatured and past articles by clicking on the ‘View all News’ link.

The news articles can be sourced from all of our websites enabling staff greater access to information across council. Some of the weekly enews content will also come from this section of the site.

On The Source – News and Media page, you have access to all news articles that have been made available to staff. If you’re looking for something in particular, you can use the search filters on the page to narrow down the title, category and date of the article.

What’s on – Events pages

The What’s on event run of the home page of the Source is a great place to see what’s happening within the organisation. ‘The Source Events’ tab shows internal staff events. A nice addition to the internal event content is a ‘booking button’ click out for events requiring bookings through Pulse.

To see a full list of internal events click on ‘View all Events’ on the home page.

The External events tab shows a range of events from the corporate, Drum and Youth websites.

Social feeds

The social feeds section at the bottom right of the home page brings together the following channels:

  • Facebook feed
  • Linkedin feed
  • Instagram feed
  • Shine feed

The Facebook, Linkedin and Instagram feeds show content from the main council accounts giving staff a quick view of the posts from these channels. It’s a good way to stay in the loop.

We have also included the Shine recognition feed, which gives a nice overview of the recognition messages staff are sending to each other, without having to open the Shine site. Scroll away and you’ll find a blend of these channels displayed.

Related Pages

We have a handy new function called ‘Related Pages’ which can be found on the bottom left of each page (if there is a link), on each website. These links are pages that are related to the information on the page you’re visiting. You may find related events, consultations, venues or locations, documents and reports or a news article.

Corporate Policies, Procedures and Codes

Looking for a major document, policy or procedure? The Corporate Policies, Procedures and Codes page is where you need to come first. Where possible we have created every corporate document as a report, which means we can make them all searchable instead of having pages with huge lists of links.

There are two filters you can use to search for a document this way. The first is to use the title search and the second is to use the report type filter. If you know what type of document you are looking for e.g. ‘Access control policy’ – it’s a policy so you could set the filter to ‘Policies and Guidelines’ and narrow down the search.

Alternatively, if you happen to be on a page where a major document is being referenced, the link to the document will be in the text and also in the ‘related pages’ at the bottom of the page.
