Council has a panel of contractors for all photography and production (live action and animation) services. These are the only companies that can be used for any photography and videography services, including promotional advertising, animated and motion graphic content for the big screen, event photography, images for publications, etc.
Media and Communications needs to be contacted before any photographer is engaged. We will be able to advise on which contactor is best suited to your specific project.
This not only ensures we comply with the tender, but allows us to share work across the panel.
Contact Media and Communications or email news@cgd.vic.gov.au.
Media and Communications have a few digital cameras that can be loaned out to staff. If you need to borrow a digital camera, please email your requested pick up and return dates to news@cgd.vic.gov.au.
If you have an event or function coming up that you would like the Mayor to speak at, there are a few procedures that you need to know. Read the following document first.
A Guide to Councillor Attendance at Events - 200KB
1. Two weeks before the event check mayor’s availability and obtain a speech request form from Jo Thorn (ext. 5230). Speech Request Form
2. Information you will need to fill out the form includes people who should be acknowledged, purpose of the speech, length of speech, the order of speakers and main points to be covered
3. A copy of other speakers speeches is useful in ensuring that there isn’t a double-up of information
Marketing and Communications will take care of your request, then send a copy to Jo Thorn for the mayor.
Staff who host meetings, launches, functions or civic events are also being asked to recognise the original owners of the land when preparing speeches or welcoming notes.
In Aboriginal culture, the community is the backbone and strength of society. To have community organisations and groups acknowledging prior ownership of this land brings reconciliation to the grassroots level and is deeply valued and appreciated by the Aboriginal community.
The following statement can be used as part of the normal welcome or opening, and is usually made by the first speaker of the meeting.
"Good morning/afternoon/evening everyone, firstly I would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and welcome you all here to this meeting/function etc..."
Marketing and Communications will ensure this in included in the speech, where appropriate.
Staff can contact the local newspapers directly and book their advertisements. However if you have any questions or need advice contact Media and Communications.
Many advertisements can be placed in the classified section (public notices) or the middle section of the paper (general advertising). Did you know that it is a requirement under the Local Government Act 1989 for Council’s website to contain public notices?
If your Public Notice requires a map, all text within the map must be legible and accessible.
Once you are happy with the proof, the advertisement must be approved by Media and Communications before publishing. Email final drafts to News for approval.
Due to these requirements, if you are placing a public notice in the local paper please advise Media and Communications (news@cgd.vic.gov.au) so it can be placed on the website. Please provide content a week prior to advertising to allow sufficient time.
