What is Community Engagement?

International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) says,

Community engagement is an intentional process with the specific purpose of working across organisations, stakeholders and communities to shape the designs or actions of the members of the community, stakeholders or organisation in relation to a problem, opportunity or outcome.

Some of the many benefits to both Council and the community include:

  • transparency, integrity and increased trust in Council processes and decisions
  • a more well-informed community
  •  increased community involvement
  • community ownership
  • improved levels of satisfaction with Council decisions and processes
  • improved service planning

There are a number of ways we can engage with our community and get their feedback. Some of these include:

  • Face-to-face consultation
  • Workshops
  • Information Sessions
  • Community Forums
  • Surveys
  • Online engagement
