Ongoing Windows and Office Security Updates
There is now a set schedule for Windows and Office security updates. IT is no longer sending alerts when there is a new update unless it will bring along a feature change.
Feature Changes
If there is an update that will change the use and functionality of Windows or Office, IT will still advise on The Source. If it’s an update that IT are aware that will affect certain business groups, we will work with them prior to update delivery.
Windows Security Updates
From the third Thursday of every month, staff in the testing group will receive the newest Windows Security updates. This will follow with the rest of the council staff receiving the update two weeks later from the first Thursday of the following month.
Next updates:
Testing Group – (received last week on 21 March)
Rest of Council – 4 April
Office Security Updates
Office Updates will occur the following week to allow a buffer between updates.
Next Updates:
Testing Group – 28 March
Rest of Council – 11 April
Forced Restart
A week after a security update is released, the update may require a forced restart to ensure the security of your device is maintained. If you have not installed the update and performed a restart, you could be alerted to restart and be given a timer to restart. This restart won’t be able to be delayed any further and you will need to save your work and restart at this time. To minimise disruption to your day, we recommend making sure that the update is done prior to this occurring.
