An Update from the Chief Information Officer - 26 May 2025

Yuri Guzman

I am pleased to provide you with an update on several key strategic initiatives and improvements to systems currently underway across our organisation.

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Business Case Development

We are thrilled to announce a major leap forward in our Digital Transformation journey! We have officially appointed Corporate Systems Services (CSS) to lead the development of our ERP Business Case, a milestone many of us have been eagerly anticipating.

Why This Matters?

ERP is the powerhouse behind our core business operations including finance, HR, asset management, customer relationships and more. With CSS on board, we are diving deep into a full review of Council’s current systems to assess how well they serve us today and how they will support us tomorrow. This review will shape the business case for a potential upgrade or replacement of our ERP platform. Big things are coming!

Let’s Kick Things Off – Briefing Sessions

To launch this exciting project, CSS will host two dynamic briefing sessions for key stakeholders:

  • Tuesday 27 May, 3pm – 4pm (Online)
  • Wednesday 28 May, 2pm - 3pm (Hybrid)

Invites have already gone out. If you believe you should be involved and have not received one, please reach out.

We are also centralising all key updates and resources on The Source and a dedicated Digital Transformation Teams Channel. Stay tuned for access details.

Your insights and involvement are crucial to the success of this project. For any questions, contact our Digital and Data Transformation Lead, Kate Harris.

Passwords – Stronger, Smarter, Simpler

We are making password security easier and more robust. From 30 May 2025, the password reset period will extend from 3 months to 12 months.

What’s Changing?

  • Password Length: From 30 of May, staff will be prompted to update their passwords from 12 to 15 characters. A small change with a big security impact.
  • Transition Period: Once everyone updates their password by 30 May, the new 12-month reset cycle begins.

Boosting Our Capability – Business Analysis Expertise Incoming

We are excited to share that we are about to bring in additional business analysis skills to support our broader digital initiatives.

These new capabilities will be a huge asset, helping us better understand business needs, identify improvement opportunities and ensure our digital solutions are aligned with real-world outcomes.

Houston, we have a problem

And thanks to Kate Harris, we are not just naming it, we are unpacking it, understanding it and actively solving it.

In the recent Houston Innovation Time sessions, Kate led a deep dive into the persistent issues affecting our Windows 10 and 11 environments - issues that have been directly impacting productivity and customer experience. From imaging failures and outdated machines to integration gaps with key systems like Merit and Objective, the sessions surfaced manual workarounds.

But here is the turning point. Kate’s facilitation did not just highlight the problems, it mobilised action. With plans underway to explore new ways of working and using technology, we’re not just reacting, we’re building a smarter, more resilient digital foundation.

If you’d like to know more about the Houston sessions or get involved, feel free to reach out to Kate directly.
