Running for Hope: Join Cr Lana Formoso in the Fight Against Childhood Cancer

Cr Lana Formoso

When my son Luka was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on Good Friday 2022, our world turned upside down. What followed was the most harrowing journey imaginable—a relentless battle against a disease that no child or family should ever face. Luka endured daily chemotherapy for two and a half years. Today, I am grateful to say he is in remission. But the reality is stark: one in four children diagnosed with cancer will not survive.

That heartbreaking reality has inspired me to take on a deeply personal challenge—running my very first marathon at the Melbourne Marathon on Sunday 12 October. I’m doing this to raise crucial funds for My Room Children’s Cancer Charity and help bring hope to children and families facing cancer.

My Room is not just any charity. It is a volunteer-led organisation dedicated to supporting patients and families affected by childhood cancer—without the red tape and bureaucracy. Their work extends far beyond financial support. They provide medical equipment, clinical care, fund crucial research and trials, and stand alongside families every step of the way.

Now that Luka is in remission, it’s time for me to reclaim my health, push my limits and run this marathon—not just for myself but for every child and family still fighting. Every step I take will be in memory of those we’ve lost, and in hope for a future where childhood cancer is no longer a death sentence.

I’m asking for your support. Whether it’s a small donation or simply sharing my story, every bit helps. Your generosity will fund research, support services and care that change lives. Together, we can bring My Room closer to their goal—a 100% cure rate for childhood cancers.

Please follow my journey, cheer me on and donate what you can. Let’s run this race together, because no child should face cancer alone.

Donate today and be part of this lifesaving mission.
