Over the last year we have experienced Heatwaves, Storms, Floods, Industrial Fires and many residential fires in Greater Dandenong. Council has a legislated role in Victoria’s Emergency Management arrangements. We provide a 24/7 response to support Emergency Services when they need our help, and we are the lead provider of Relief and Recovery services at the municipal level. This includes the responsibility to open an Emergency Relief Centre (ERC) to provide shelter, food and safety information for our community, and in recent years we have deployed staff to other Council’s to support their relief efforts. We have also had requests for staff to work in Control Centre’s when major incidents are occurring.
Last year we were fortunate to expand the numbers of staff working as Deputy Municipal Emergency Management Officers (Dep MEMOs) and/or Deputy Municipal Recovery Managers (Dep MRMs). We’re very grateful for the passionate and enthusiastic work of Samantha Ackland, Chris Le Miere, Paul Winnell, Janak Bharati, Libby McInnes, Leanne Johnson, Marissa Nathaniel, James Mitchelle, Kate Harris, Susan Cockbill and Lisa Gnocato. We’ve just finished reviewing the 2024-2025 Severe Weather Season and we’d like to increase our numbers even more.
Therefore, we are looking for staff to work in our team as Deputy MEMO’s and Deputy MRMs. We are also looking to expand the capacity of our ERC teams. Whether or not you possess prior experience, we still encourage you to find out more, as many skills are transferable. Training is provided and all other staff entitlements are included. Participating in Council’s Emergency Management Teams provides an excellent opportunity to acquire new skills, gain experience applicable to your usual role, and connect with individuals from other Councils, Emergency Services, and various departments within Council.
