As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant and efficient workplace, we would like to remind all staff of the critical importance of proper housekeeping in all storage areas. Adhering to these standards is essential not only for operational effectiveness but also to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and fire safety regulations.
Please ensure the following practices are consistently observed:
- Stack items neatly to prevent tipping or collapse.
- Keep floor space clear to eliminate trip and fall hazards.
- Do not store items on top of cages, as this interferes with the required clearance from sprinkler heads, which is vital for effective fire suppression.
- Do not place items in fire corridors or common walkways. These areas must remain unobstructed to allow safe and immediate egress in the event of an emergency.
- Do not dump rubbish in the main waste bin room. This area is not to be used for general waste disposal. Please follow proper waste management procedures.
- Pallets from deliveries must not be dumped or left lying around. These must be removed or and disposed of appropriately to avoid creating hazards or blocking access.
- Only use the storage space allocated to your department. Do not encroach on surrounding areas or use space assigned to other teams.
- Where temporary storage space has been allocated, please remember this is strictly temporary. Items must be removed by the agreed deadline to avoid disruption to others.
Each department is responsible for maintaining its designated storage areas in a clean and orderly condition, including the regular removal of rubbish and unused items.
We strongly encourage routine cleanups to uphold safety standards and identify opportunities for space optimization. This may also facilitate shared use of storage areas between departments where appropriate.
Please note that the Dandenong Civic Centre building is currently at full capacity for additional storage. Departments may need to consider off-site or external storage solutions for any new or excess items.
If you have any questions or require assistance, please contact Gavin Mansfield or the Building Maintenance Team.
