Welcome to the Fortnightly Five series where we learn a little bit about our colleagues. This week it is Waste Services Team Leader, Tony Barca.

In 100 words or less tell us a little bit about a day in your job?

Waste Services involves an early start to every day, checking in on contractors and staff ensuring we get off to a great day/week.

Every day is different – enjoyable and challenging from many perspectives which is the way with waste!

At the end of the day, one of our key focuses is ensuring that our residents bins are emptied on time, efficiently and safely, and we are proud to say that happens.

Each month our kerbside collection contractor averages around 400,000 bin collections.

My day has me dealing with number highly motivated colleagues across various internal business units and external stakeholders.

Before I know it, home time!

Favourite achievement in your time at Council?

The 'Great Bin Swap' back in 2014 where every residential bin was swapped to the Australian Standard bin colours, at the time it was the largest bin changeover program undertaken in Australia.

Favourite thing about Greater Dandenong?

Our community, diversity and culture.

Outside of work, what fills your cup?

Being married to Mary for almost 45 years (wow) and witnessing our three young men’s achievements in their lives to date.

A passionate St. Kilda Football Club supporter, lover of Melbourne’s live music scene, a mad Status Quo fan since the early seventies (YouTube them), have two rescue cats Milly and Wilbur (see pictures below).
