Welcome to the Fortnightly Five where we learn a little bit about our colleagues. This week it is Library Team Leader - Community, Reading and Learning, Robyn Smith.
1. In around 100 words, tell us a little bit about a day in your job?
A typical day in my role involves supporting staff with their portfolio work and assisting them to provide excellent and consistent customer service to library patrons. I also spend time looking at professional development needs and opportunities for the team. I will also be attending meetings with working groups such as our Wellness Team and Respect and Connect and responding to endless emails. I also may spend a few hours front of house in the library helping patrons and working with the team.
2. Favourite achievement in your time at Council.
I really enjoyed piloting and getting our first online book club up and running in 2020. It is still going strong with a keen regular group of participants. Staff Reading Circle has also been a great initiative, a way to connect with others in council through reading.
Libraries change lives. Our repurposed books helped to create a library for students at Bandari school Tanzania (see photo below).
3. Favourite thing about Greater Dandenong?
People finding a new home and discovering the library.
4. Outside of work, what fills your cup?
I love yoga, hanging out with friends and family, especially at Venus Bay, my dog Arlo and going to the footy (Iām a Pies fan).
5. Quick take:
Cats or dogs? Dogs are the best
Grateful for? Good health and family
Favourite sporting team? Collingwood
Currently reading, watching or listening to? A town called Solace by Mary Lawson, listening to The Flatshare by Beth Oā Leary and watching Better Date than Never on iView.
