kathryn and her family

Welcome to our new Source series - the Fortnightly Five where we learn a little bit about our colleagues. This week it is Senior Economic Development Officer, Kathryn Smit.

1. In 100 words or less tell us a little bit about a day in your job?

I work in Economic Development, which is dedicated to supporting businesses within Greater Dandenong. Each day can vary depending on the project or enquires we receive. My role is to oversee the marketing and promotion of Economic Development and consists of writing articles to celebrate local businesses, website updates, engaging with businesses, working on developing strategies, briefs and guides and implementing strategies from our business plan. This diverse role ensures we promote economic growth and provide valuable resources to our business community.

2. Favourite achievement in your time at Council.

Successfully helping to organise and run the Career and Try a Trade Day and do some fabulous engagement with high school students about careers available in Council.

3. Favourite thing about Greater Dandenong?

I love the culture, food options and the variety in shopping opportunities.

4. Outside of work, what fills your cup?

Cooking, going to the beach, spending time with family and friends, reading and spending time with my cat.

5. Quick Take:

  • Cats or dogs: cats
  • Grateful for: The opportunity to help the community in my work.
  • Favourite sporting team: My daughter's hockey team – Casey Cannons.
  • Currently reading, watching or listening to: I am listening to the audio book of 'The Happiest Man on Earth'.
