Welcome to the first of our new Source series - the Fortnightly Five where we learn a little bit about our colleagues. This week it is CEO Jacqui Weatherill.

In 100 words or less tell us a little bit about a day in your job?

Working as a Local Government CEO is the most challenging, enjoyable and ever-changing role. No day is ever the same. City of Greater Dandenong is a large, complex organisation with over 50 different services.

Common leadership skills I use every day include:

  • Issues Management
  • Media management and communications
  • Human Resource Management
  • Financial management and budgeting
  • Workforce Leadership - Discussions with staff
  • Public speaking on behalf of Council
  • Chairing Meetings and representing Council’s best interests at meetings with other levels of Government and key stakeholders

The stereotypical view that people have of councils is that not much goes on there, or they’re just making things worse. But it’s nothing like that at all!

Favourite thing about Greater Dandenong?

The passionate workforce and a proud community.

Outside of work, what fills your cup?

I absolutely love eating and socialising with my family and friends, in particular my husband and our 4 children.

Other things I enjoy are

  • cold water ocean swimming with the Sea Wolves at Mt Martha
  • yoga
  • walking in nature
  • down time!

Cats or dogs:

Dog – Bordoodles are my preferred breed.

Quick take

Grateful for:

An amazing and supportive husband and family

Favourite sporting team:

Gymnastics Australia or the Matildas

Reading - Lateral Thinking, By Edward De Bono

Surprisingly, at school, no one teaches you how to think; I mean really think. The only thinking skills that you do acquire are focused on a logical approach known as ‘vertical thinking’. Inherent with flaws, this system of encourages you to stop as soon as you reach the first solution to your problem, regardless of whether this is the best solution that you can find.

Lateral Thinking expands your mind to approach problem solving and creativity in a new way with a series of thinking skills that anyone can learn.
