Fortnightly Five - Get to know Harry Habitat

A person in a tree costume

Welcome to our new Source series - the Fortnightly Five where we learn a little bit about our colleagues. This week it is our favourite river red gum, Harry Habitat.

1. In 100 words or less tell us a little bit about a day in your job?

I am a river red gum and I attend Council events. I love to let people know all about the importance of Greater Dandenong's biodiversity and the importance of protecting our local tree canopy.

2. Favourite achievement in your time at Council.

Too many to share, but I really love attending the Discover Dandenong Creek Festival each year. It is so great to show people how wonderful nature is and hang out with our wonderful community.

I love helping to look after all the trees. Did you know Council manages 55,000 street trees and a significant number of park trees?

3. Favourite thing about Greater Dandenong?

Dandenong Creek. It is such an important waterway that winds through Greater Dandenong as well as other municipalities. So many of my animal and tree friends live along its bank.

4. Outside of work, what fills your cup?

  • Spending time with best mate Lily Litter
  • Providing habitat in my hollows for wildlife such as possums
  • Dancing in the wind
  • Catching up on what's happening in the 'Our Bright Green Future' eNewsletter

5. Quick Take: Cats or dogs?

I love dogs, particularly when they come and say hi. I don’t see many cats as they tend to obey our new cat curfew.
