Correction: Staff to receive pay increase Tuesday 29 July
In yesterday's Source News we mistakenly said that the upcoming pay increase would appear in pays on Tuesday 15 July. This was an error and we’re really sorry.
The upcoming pay increase will take effect from the first full pay period in July 2025, which begins on Monday 14 July. As a result, the increase will be reflected in pays on Tuesday 29 July 2025.
In case you missed it, see below for the CEO’s announcement from 24 June on the interim pay increase.
CEO Announcement - Interim pay rise on the way
The last time I wrote, I stated I was seeking an interim improvement of your working conditions - effective 1/7/25 - to help address ongoing cost of living pressures.
My aim was to have this implemented immediately while the ASU, other Councils, and their respective legal teams continue to work through what is expected to be a protracted Multi-Employer Bargaining (MEB) application before the Fair Work Commission.
Please note the next Fair Work Commission hearing is scheduled for after the 4 July 2025.
We met with the ASU recently (10/6). The Union, in principle, has agreed to our approach but has sought a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to lock in any backpay from when the Enterprise Agreement (EA) is finally reached.
Last night, the Council adopted the 2025-26 Council Budget and as a result, we are pleased to advise that we will be increasing base rates and allowances by 2.5% from the first full payment in July 2025.
If a higher amount is eventually agreed in the EA, a back payment of the difference and an acknowledgement of the payment is to be set off against the final rate, as approved by the FWC.
We will, of course, do everything to ensure that your interests are protected and will work with the Union to give greater comfort if required.
As I have previously mentioned, our EA expires on the 30 June 2025.
I will keep you informed of progress.
