This is a reminder to all staff that we are required to declare any conflicts of interest, to ensure the integrity and transparency of the decision-making processes of Council.
A conflict of interest exists if a Council Officer's own personal situation, relationships or finances could potentially sway their judgment or actions in their public role, in a way that benefits them rather than servicing the public interest.
The obligation to disclose a conflict of interest is a personal responsibility. Each staff member must monitor their own circumstances and identify their conflicts of interests. If you have a conflict of interest, you must disclose it and exclude yourself from the decision-making process. Failing to disclose a conflict of interest in accordance with the Act can result in criminal prosecution in a court, and/or disciplinary action under the Code of Conduct (for Council staff).
To declare a Conflict of Interest, please complete Disclose an Interest form.
