Celebrate NAIDOC Week at Dandenong Market

NAIDOC Week

Join us at Dandenong Market on Sunday 6 July, 10am–3pm for a vibrant celebration of NAIDOC Week under this year’s theme: The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy.

In partnership with the Traditional Custodians of the land, the Bunurong people and our local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, this special BLAK Market event will showcase the creativity, culture and future vision of First Nations people.

What to Expect:

  • Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony led by Bunurong Elder Uncle Mark Brown
  • Traditional dance performances by Djarlo Dance Group and music by the renowned Ganga Giri Djarlo Dance Group - Ganga Giri
  • Interactive workshops including clapsticks with Josh West and basket weaving with Aunty Sam Bennett
  • Stalls featuring local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists and small businesses

With over 150 nationalities represented under one roof, Dandenong Market is the perfect place to celebrate the world’s oldest living culture. This event is not only a cultural celebration but also a platform to support and uplift Aboriginal businesses and creatives.

Why It Matters:

This is a powerful opportunity for the broader community to connect with Aboriginal language, arts and culture, and to support the journey of Reconciliation. As we develop our third Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we encourage all staff and community members to engage with NAIDOC events across the State.

Let’s come together to honour the past, celebrate the present and embrace a shared vision for the future.
