Responding to the Commonwealth Government’s aged care reforms
The Commonwealth Government is introducing a new way to access and deliver aged services and the Victorian State Government is also reviewing the Home and Community Care Program for Younger People (HACC-PYP). As part of these changes, Council needs to undertake extensive community consultation to understand what programs and services it should deliver in the future.
Council has endorsed the consultation framework, which involves extensive engagement with staff, older residents, clients, carers, stakeholders, service providers and the broader community. The outcome of this process will help inform Council’s future role in delivering aged care and disability services.
This consultation is now closed.
Supporting our wider community
Our existing clients and the wider community will also be able to have their say via online and hard copy surveys, pop-up consultation sessions, telephone interviews, focus groups and community panel participation. More information is available on Council’s website.
The broad timelines for the project are:
| Dates | Key activities |
|---|---|
| 11 September - 8 October 2023 | Staff engagement - includes online and hard copy surveys and staff meetings |
| 11 September - 8 October 2023 | Broad community consultation - includes pop ups, online and hard copy surveys, focus groups and interviews |

Please remember that Council will continue to offer the existing CHSP program and is not taking any action to alter our services prior to 30 June 2024, nor without a Council resolution.
Council’s website has also been updated to reflect our progress and to promote all the ways everyone can have their say.
I know this time of uncertainty can be incredibly challenging so please seek the support you need. Do not hesitate to speak to your Manager, or if needed contact our Employee Assistance Provider, Converge International, on 1300 687 327 for a free, confidential discussion with a qualified counsellor.
As always, thank you for the amazing work everyone does to support the older residents of our community.
