Promoting the employment of people with disabilities
Council's Disability Policy and Disability Action Plan has committed Council to address the low rate of employment of people with disability in our community.
In order to assist staff with promoting employment opportunities for people with disabilities, Council has taken out Australian Network on Disability (ANoD) membership.
This membership allows staff to understand the benefits of employing people with a range of abilities and to dispel the myths associated with disability, including:
- becoming disability confident
- developing best practice policies and procedures
- becoming barrier free employers
- meeting responsibilities under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and other anti discrimination legislation
Council has:
- adopted the Workplace Adjustments Guidelines
- hosted 9 'Stepping Into Program' graduate work experience students. The 'Stepping Into Program' is offered by ANoD and has been proven to have beneficial outcomes for both employers and students.
The Australian Network on Disability has published a Manager’s Guide to Creating a Disability Inclusive Workplace. Use the link below to download this great resource.
